PLAN YOUR NEXT LOAD
Scrap Metal
Value Calculator.
Turn the weights and rates you have into a planning estimate. Add each material separately, then include your trip cost.
KEEP A RECORD
Contractor load log & worksheet.
Record each material’s weight, the rate and its unit, your estimate and the actual amount received. Copy a calculation or add a blank entry. Log entries are records you supply; editing a log does not recalculate your estimate.
Download a CSV or enable browser saving to keep your log after leaving this page.
Spreadsheet protection may add a visible apostrophe to entries that look like formulas. The log holds up to 50 material entries. Currency is USD; a US short ton is 2,000 lb.

All currency is USD. Record the weight unit and rate unit separately. US short ton = 2,000 lb.
Estimates are planning figures. Confirm grade, accepted weight and rate with the yard.
Download a blank load-log CSV to use in your spreadsheet.
HOW THE MATH WORKS
Use the right weight and rate.
For each row, the calculator converts weight and rate to the same unit, then multiplies them. It adds the unrounded row estimates and subtracts your trip cost. Results display in US dollars, rounded to cents.
What does “net weight” mean here?
Use the weight of the material you are estimating, excluding containers or other items you do not expect to be weighed as that material. A household estimate may differ from the yard’s accepted scale weight.
Which ton does this calculator use?
A US short ton equals 2,000 lb. A kilogram equals 1 ÷ 0.45359237 lb. This tool does not use metric tonnes or long tons. Check the unit on your quote.
Can this estimate a junk car offer?
A vehicle’s curb weight and a scrap rate do not establish its offer. Use our vehicle preparation checklist and request an offer for the specific vehicle.
Why might the final amount differ?
Material grade, attachments, accepted weight, rate changes and any agreed charges can affect the final amount. This calculator uses only the values you enter and does not verify your material.
